The agricultural company Maccarese S.p.A., covering an area of 3,200 hectares in a single block, is considered one of the largest farms in Italy and one of the most significant Italian entrepreneurial realities.
Currently, 2,400 hectares are cultivated with cereals, protein crops, forage, and vegetables. Recently, a super-intensive almond orchard covering 120 hectares has been planted, positioning the company as a national leader in this type of cultivation.
Almost the entire area is irrigated using a wide range of irrigation systems available on the market.

In 2019, the prestigious Bureau Veritas granted the company ISO 45001 certification for Health and Safety Management, complementing the ISO 14001 environmental certification obtained in 2008. Maccarese is the only livestock center to hold this certification, reflecting the company’s mission to achieve high productive performance while respecting environmental and social sustainability.

In the premises of the former mill, a large structure near the railway station, is located the global headquarters of BIOVERSITY, the agro-bio-food research institute operating under the auspices of the FAO. Within this large complex of buildings are also the laboratories of two associations of AIA (Italian Breeders Association).

The Ferrero family was the first Italian manufacturer after the Second World War to open production sites and offices abroad in the confectionary sector, turning the company into a true international player.

Its international expansion began in earnest in 1956, when a large plant in Germany was opened. A short time later, Ferrero’s second international site opened in France, and from there, its growth was rapid. Ferrero now has a footprint that spans Europe, North and South America, Africa, Australia and Southeast Asia.

Still a family-owned company, now in its third generation, Ferrero continues to grow, drawing on its legacy, expertise and iconic specialties to launch new products and bring new brands such as Thorntons, Fannie May, Butterfinger, Eat Natural and ice cream producer Wells Enterprises into the family.
